TheTwins Posted February 10 Posted February 10 PinPics is about to launch an exciting website upgrade! The PinPics website will go offline on Wednesday, 12 Feb (10:00am EST), but should be back on Sunday, 16 Feb. During that time, watch our FACEBOOK page for updates! https://www.facebook.com/PinPics/ Once the website comes back online, there will be several days where the Pins Database software will be cacheing all images and data. During that time, your pin lists may appear incomplete. Don't worry! No data or lists will be lost, just unavailable! There are simple things that you can do to prepare for this time: If you're working on any trades, make sure to exchange e-mail addresses with your trade partner. That way, you can communicate with each another during the website downtime. Watch for emails from PinPics. We'll send out an announcement with the downtime schedule. We'll also send out an e-mail announcement when the site is back online. And you can always watch our Facebook page for updates! If you're planning to be at a Pin Event this weekend and think you'll need your information, utilize the PDF printing option today to download your collection to any digital device. You can then print your information from that PDF or use it on your device. Don't worry! During the downtime, your accounts are secure. You will not lose any information in your pin lists or Message Inbox. We think you'll be excited with the changes to the site when it comes live again! Thanks for your patience while we work through this together! If you don't know how to download your lists as PDF files, just check out this guide and reply here with any questions. Edit Added 2-11-2025: There is a bug on the server causing PDF-generation errors when trying to download OWNS lists. This problem will be fixed with the software upgrade that's coming, and you'll be able to download your lists easily once the site is back online. Don't worry, because we have all the lists backed up and saved. They won't be lost during the upgrade, and the PDF printing feature will be even nicer than it is now. 2 Quote

firechief18 Posted February 11 Posted February 11 With larger groups like owns list I found that after I clicked the download it took forever it seemed. A few hours later I did find the file in my downloads quite by accident. I thought it had failed, so I downloaded my wants and trades. Found the owns when I went to get the other files. 4 Quote
tbird Posted February 15 Posted February 15 Search function is still horrible. I typed every word on the front of this pin and nothing comes up. Quote

Expand This is Pin #106680. The search function is actually very good, but you'll notice that the title on this listing is poor. The search function is only as good as the titles, and until about 2023, frankly, the listings here were moderated quite poorly. Search for less and you have to do things like identifying the year on the back of the pin, etc. Often, that is the way you can find the older pins. 3 Quote
terabyte Posted February 16 Posted February 16 @tbird Can I ask what you tried searching? Entering 3 words figment pure imagination, and including descriptions, Pin #106680 comes up as the only result: https://pinpics.com/pins/?filter_name=figment pure imagination&filter_description=1 2 Quote
tbird Posted February 16 Posted February 16 I tried doing that exact search and nothing at all came up for me for some reason. Expand I think it will be the "include description" option that works, in this case. I just tried it, and that pin is the one result that comes up. But we've even fixed the title to include all the words, and it now comes up without the description option being checked. Again, this isn't an issue with the search function. It's an issue with the titles and the way the pin is being searched for. It's a huge job to get the tens-of-thousands of old listings updated and titles fixed, considering there are only a handful of volunteers working on this. If you find pins that need titles fixed, don't hesitate to send in a correction by using the "Suggestion Changes" button inside a pin listing. We'll get it updated as soon as possible. Thanks! 1 Quote
terabyte Posted February 16 Posted February 16 Yes, it worked only if the description was included because the keywords pure and imagination were only available in the description. The title has been fixed, so now it'll work even without including the description. 2 Quote
tbird Posted February 16 Posted February 16 I perfectly understand that. I guess that's what happens when some people don't describe it good enough. Thanks for the help. Can we as users update the titles to better describe the pins or is only a function that the administrators can preform? Thanks for the help. Can we as users update the titles to better describe the pins or is only a function that the administrators can preform? Expand Yeah, a lot of older pin listings were approved with little or no moderation -- which means they don't have much in the way of titles or keywords. Users can't manually update this info, but it's a big help if you submit a correction suggestion when you find a pin that needs help. We monitor all those suggestions regularly and get the listings updated as quickly as we can. It's super easy to send in a suggestion, too! All you have to do is use the green "Suggest Changes" button inside a pin listing. That'll open a pop-up box where you can type in your note, and it gets submitted right then. Thanks so much! 1 Quote
