buzz2001 Posted July 16 Posted July 16 Walt’s backyard steam engine was completed 75 years ago By Leo N Holzer The Carolwood Pacific Historical Society joined members of the Los Angeles Live Steamers at Walt Disney's Carolwood Pacific Barn 25 years ago on July 16, 2000, to celebrate the 50th anniversary of Walt's favorite steam engine, the CP 173, Lilly Belle. The one-eighth scale miniature working model was originally built 75 years ago in the Machine Shop at Disney Studios in Burbank under the direction of Roger Broggie, who later became one of the first Imagineers selected by Walt to help build Disneyland. The Lilly Belle ran in the backyard of his Holmby Hills estate and is now on display at The Walt Disney Family Museum in San Francisco. Walt took a tremendous amount of pride in his train and handcrafted the caboose himself. 1 Quote
