stitchaddict Posted July 28 Posted July 28 (edited) Hi everyone, I've been out of the trading game for a long time! I first bought a few pins as a teenager, then really got in to the hobby when I was in college in Florida. I did unfortuantely buy some trader grab bags on ebay before I knew what scrappers were, I wish someone had stopped me then! I haven't traded in so many years, now I usually just buy pins that I like from the shops in Disneyland Paris. I did my first trade with a cast member there this month! Sadly I only saw one cast member wearing a lanyard for trade, any other cast members I saw were just displaying their personal pins on their belt bag, and I didn't find any pin boards. These are some of my old traders that either look a little rough with time, or have notices on the database that there are fakes circulating. Would love some extra opinions: PP54611 WDW - Chip - Cute Characters Mystery - I'm hoping this one's authentic because it looks good except for the little scratch on his face PP73122 Ginger Bread Man - Vinylmation - Holiday Series 1 - Mystery- probably got this one trading off a cast member lanyard, but read that it has scrappers PP75757 Gamma - Up - Balloon - PT52 - Mystery- The gold around the edges is chipping away PP75702 Axiom - Wall E - PT52 - Mystery - Golden border isn't looking great, another one with warnings PP97242 WDW - Russell Chaser - Patriotic Shield - Hidden Mickey 2013- this one doesn't mention anything in the pin description, but on the sidebar says that known scrappers exist Thanks in advance to anyone who responds Edited July 28 by stitchaddict moving a photo Quote
firechief18 Posted July 28 Posted July 28 My opinion from the pictures Chip - unsure Gingerbread man - missing nubs leads me to think scrap Gamma - unsure Axiom - unsure Russell - scrap, Mickey waffle and nub issues. 3 Quote

Thanks for responding! I hadn't looked at the nubs as an indicator before. I've generally read that the border around the mickey heads can indicate scrapper, but I've looked at all my traders on pinpics and found one that said the mickey heads could extend off the edge or feature a border on an authentic pin, so that was confusing too. firechief18 Posted July 28 Posted July 28 Any pins prior to 2020 where the Mickey waffle does not go all the way to the edge or if the waffle has a boarder that was a good indication that the pin was a scrapped pin. Beginning 2021 forward quality control went out the window, so now if the waffle doesn't go all the way to the edge no longer is an indication of a scrapped pin. As for the nubs, missing, squat nubs or tiny nubs area good indicator for a scrapped pin. 2 Quote

We have listed on the site of pins from 2020 and newer if the Mickey waffle pattern does not extend to the edge. In my opinion your Chip pin is definitely a fake as the font for the date logo is too big. Your Gingerbread man has the font for the "Authentic Official" is too big. Your P52 pins just have the gold plating coming off, that usually makes them undesirable. And your Russell definitely is a fake. 3 Quote
sithathoriunet Posted July 28 Posted July 28 Thanks for posting your pins with such good photos, it's good for all of us to see and learn about as many pins as we can. 1 Quote

The gingerbread man is missing nubs, but the nubs for the other ones are pretty decently sharp, even if it's not clear from the photos. 1 Quote

What a bummer that the 2 reliable pins are just not in great condition! I don't know what life they lived before I traded them. Thanks for the tip about the font size, I'll have to check the listings to see what the authentic back looks like, if they're shown. Edited July 29 by stitchaddict 1 Quote
