Year 2000 Best-of-the-Best Game

Warning: This game may cause insomnia! FIVE POINTS and a profile badge for anyone who answers in a thoughtful way. Sorry, but eeny-meeny-miny-moe answers won't count!

Points and badge will be awarded to anyone who follows all the instructions below.

Starts off easy:

1) Click on the PINS DATABASE tab on the home page.

The next step is a bit tricker:

2) Scroll down through the filter section and use the dropdown YEAR box to filter only pins from 2000 and hit the search button. You should end up with over 1,800 PinPics listings to plow through . . . I mean, look at.

If it's still early in your day, and you haven't had that cup of coffee yet, here's a link that will take you to the filtered pin list:

https://pinpics.com/pins/?filter_years=27

This is the part where your brain has to be fully awake:

3) Make a list of the five pins from this list which you think should have the first and best numbers (#1, #2, #3, #4, #5). Use the PinPics numbers for your list.

Now, the insomnia sets in. Try not to spend too many sleepless nights figuring this out:

4) Why those five pins? (Must include one unique answer for each of your five choices.)

THE FINE PRINT

  • No pin may be used more than once.
  • No character's face may be on more than one of your five pins.
  • Only pins with an original release date or backstamp of 2000 may be on your list.
  • Only released pins may be used (no APs, PPs, or prototypes).
  • Cast pins are allowed.
  • You DO NOT have to own the pins to use them in your list.

It's been awhile since we posted a new game, so to get things started (and illustrate the way answers need to be posted), I thought I'd play first! Now, on to my personal best-of-the-best list from Year 2000 releases.

~ Sarah

#1: Real-cloisonne Belle Head

If it wasn't for this pin, I would never have fallen down the rabbit-hole of real-cloisonne pins and older pins and everything that goes with it. In my mind, this pin always has pride-of-place in my collection!

#2: United Kingdom Mickey-head Flag Icon

Another real-cloisonne gem, Sis and I had a bunch of fakes of these pins (unknowingly) from years ago. When we got our first flag icon pin made of real cloisonne, the colors were absolutely breathtaking. This pin changed my outlook on this whole set of pins, as well as the red and blue tones from the RC pins. Wow! Of course, the UK is my dream vacation, so it's extra special to be the Union Jack.

#3: American Adventure Pavilion Mosaic Framed Set

Sis and I have always loved World Showcase, but we were never much on the American Adventure pavilion. That all changed last year when we went to EPCOT with a friend. He took us to see the Voices of Liberty perform and then see the animatronic show. Ever since, we've been reformed World Showcase travellers and listen to "Golden Dreams" before bed all the time. This is one of our very favorite pavilions, and this framed set is on the top of our Wants list. We've managed to get six of these frames now for different countries, and they're totally amazing!

#4: UK Pavilion Real-cloisonne Pin

This set of pins is so much more impressive in real life than any pictures can convey, and the reason I'm counting this pin in my Top 5 list is the manufacturing technique used for the thatched roof. The pin is real-cloisonne hard enamel, but the roof looks metallic. They achieved this by letting the base copper metal of the pin show through a tinted enamel filling, rather than an opaque color.

#5: Theodore P. Trader Bear

And in the final spot is a pin that is just so cool, and one I only just added to my collection with the help of a friend! Theodore was a genuine limited-edition Steiff bear released in 2000. He came with a sash that featured four pins on it, this being one. He's not easy to come by, but Sis and I got some mini Steiff bears in the shop at the Germany pavilion and plan to make our own small versions of Theodore!

#1: Scuba Diver Mickey

How can you not love this pin. This is just a great representation of Mickey having a great time and spending that time underwater. (If you know me you know why this is a great pin).

#2: Lincoln 35 Years

I have an exenstive collection of Pressed Penny Pins and this pin sort of falls into that category. Based on the number of people trading this pin it may be sort of hard to find.

#3:  USPS California

I think I have 11 pins so far with the shape of California, this pin is also on my want list and may also be tough to find.

#4: Disneyana Pin Trading 2000

Early on I had a pin board with a lot of "pin trading" pins. This is one I was alos never able to find.

#5: Snow White

Another great early pin trading pin. Snow White in her purist form. What is there not to love about this pin. (This is one pin from a set of 6)

I actually chose 5 pins that are in my collection (or my wants) because they represent the pins I love best.

#1: Dopey in a Bubble

I love the dwarfs but especially Dopey. What can be more fun than Dopey in a bubble? Love that facial expression.

#2: Eeyore as a Butterfly

I love all of the Pooh characters but ultimately Eeyore is my favorite. To top it off, he is dressed as a butterfly, which is also something that I collect.

#3: Flower and Garden

Of the festivals offered at Walt Disney World, I absolutely LOVE the Flower and Garden Festival.

#4: Kilimanjaro Safaris

No trip to Disney World is complete without going on the safari at least once. I have been known to take the journey at least twice on most trips. The trip is never the same so it is exciting to see what each safari has to offer.

#5: Hall of Presidents

Not only is this a great air conditioned venue but it never ceases to thrill me to see all of the U S Presidents on one stage. Again, a trip to the Magic Kingdom is not complete without a visit to Hall of Presidents. Be sure to take the time to look at all the artifacts in the "rotunda" before you enter the theater.

Well all I can say is, this was very difficult!  I was amazed at how many pins I liked and how many of those pins I own or used to own.
#1).

Pin #39284.  This was not necessarily my favorite picture because I like a lot of color.  I chose it because Walt and Mickey were the starting point.  And Disneyland was the first park I ever went to, (back in 1959).  It is also my favorite park for the same reason.

#2).image.png.1f404c80070997737a2b3729d9bf4581.png

#45192.  This pin gets the number 2 spot because I spent a lot of time watching the original Mickey Mouse club and The Wonderful World of Color movies back in the 60’s.  Yes, I am old. 😂. There was actually one I preferred, #45192,  but it had Mickey on it and I was only allowed to use him once.

#3).  image.png.e9d3a0da3fa6b90396f9003ea0db4a50.png

#2191.  I chose this pin as #3 because as most of you know, I love collecting cats and dogs although I would choose cats over dogs, (sorry Pluto my favorite dog).  Anyway, this pin won because it shows my favorite cats, Figaro #1, Berlioz #2 and the Si and Am troublemakers #3.

4). image.png.57050fa501a0e8fc84fe178adc700063.png
#1710.  This pin made the cut because I collect nurse pins.  I was a nurse for 45 years before transitioning into a Health and Wellness Coach.  I chose this nurse pin because I like the color blue better than the color green.  😂

5).  image.png.8f7161bb6066be44849967a424f5a573.png
Pin#3134.  This was my hardest because it was the last pin I was allowed to choose.  I love #21138 which is the Headless Horseman and my favorite part of the Halloween party.  However, I prefer Christmas over Halloween.  My two favorite parts of Christmas at Disney were the Osborne Lights and the Candlelight Processional.  I choose this pin because it has an angel which is part of the Candlelight Processional yet it is from the Osborne Lights which is no longer.  So therefore comprises both of them, (kind of).

Those were my choices for the year 2000, today.  Tomorrow I might change my mind. 😂

I accidentally put the bottom picture on twice but can’t figure out how to cut it out. Can anyone help?
