I have a question about timing. If I offer someone to trade a pin of mine, don’t hear back from them for a couple of days, and then get an offer from someone else to trade for the same pin, can I trade for the pin?  What if, after agreeing to trade with someone else, I hear back from the original person that they accept that original offer?

Simply explain that you sent out multiply requests and it was first come, first serve or you accepted the first trade response.

Absolutely, @buzz2001 is correct. Pin offers/requests are always on a first-come basis at PinPics. Each member is allowed to decide if they would like to hold their pins for a certain amount of time, but that is personal preference. You are welcome to send out a request with the same pin to multiple people. The key is always friendly communication when you're responding to messages, and everyone should understand that trading is very fluid and active here.
