WDW - A PIECE OF DISNEY HISTORY COLLECTION (2005-2008)
On 28 January 2005, the Piece of Disney History collection debuted at WDW. Working with the Engineering Services teams around the Walt Disney World Resort, the Disney Pin Team was able to obtain actual pieces of Disney Attractions (some of which have been retired). In turn, the Pin Team partnered with their manufacturers to add actual pieces of those Disney Attractions, under small dome elements, to the fronts of the pins. A new LE2500 pin was released at WDW each month throughout 2005, 2006, and 2008. (No PODH pins were released during 2007.)
It didn't take long for the craze to spread:
