Front Description
This pin is exactly like pinpics #1069 however this pin is without the coffin box. This pin was released in the summer of 1999 for the Haunted Mansion Walt Disney Art Classics event in Disneyland. Many of the coffin presentation boxes were ruined by water.
23 June 2003 comment: A large number of counterfeits of this pin are being sold on eBay. According to a knowledgeable source, here's how to tell the difference: 1) Does it come with the coffin box? If not it's most likely a fake [see note in description about this issue]. 2) What color is the metal of the pin? If it is either shiny like a new nickel or a very light pewter color it is a fake. The real pins are a dark pewter. The fakes were first produced in shiny metal but that made them easily identifiable to the knowledgeable pin trader, so the second run was made in a pewter that closely matches the true pin. 3) What color is the back of the pin? If it is a dark almost black pewter it is one of the real ones. The fakes are the same color as the front of the pin. 4) And this you can only tell when you have both in your hand. The fake is slightly smaller and much lighter in weight.
