Front Description
Donald Duck is pictured in the center of which looks like 2 Yellow and 1 Green "O's" for The University of Oregon with OREGON underneath. The team colors of Green & Yellow are primary. I was told that it is the only college in the US to have a Disney character for its sports teams namesake. In 1947 the University's first athletic director, Leo Harris, struck a handshake arrangement with Walt Disney. Donald Duck's likeness could serve as a mascot, as long as it was done in good taste. The unique deal stood for 20 years, with Walt Disney Productions providing several versions of the duck for Oregon's use, until the cartoonist's death in 1966. That's when both parties realized no formal contract existed granting the University the right to Donald's image. The pin measures 3/4" tall by 9/16" wide and the backstamp is ©1987 AGB Inc Atlanta GA and Taiwan partially covered with the pin back. The pin has an epoxy coating.
