PP12996    Disney Hyperion Trains & Inns Pin

Front Description

The story I was provided with this pin was that Hyperion Trains & Inns (Hyperion is a name Disney uses extensively in various ventures), was a mid 1990's concept to design a train that travelled the eastern seaboard, stopping a various company designed inns along the way. Development of the train itself and the inns was to extensively involve Walt Disney Imagineering. the project itself was supposedly one of the last "Blue-Sky" projects green lighted by former Walt Disney Company President Frank Wells before his untimely death. "Blue-Sky" is essentially a concept that is outside the box of the normal frame of thinking, kind of like taking a right angle to a companies normal business endeavors. This particular effort was to be entirely Disney non-branded, i.e. they wanted it to be taken as a serious travel venture, and not a ride with Mickey Mouse. However, for some reason, the idea never came to fruition. It is a copper color metal with a deep teal enamel, truly striking and very art deco looking. The back is marked ©All American Pin Company LA, CA (213-735-1207).
