Front Description
This silver-and-gold pin is the official Disney World Ambassador Program pin. It is the Ambassador pin that was worn from 1970 to 1996. In 1996, this pin was changed to PP13834, which was then first worn at the 1997 Ambassador Team Ceremony and continues to this day (2002).
It features a silver Mickey Head in the center (Mouse-Ear World logo) and a gold Classic D, the bottom of the pin has a banner that reads AMBASSADOR.
The Walt Disney World Ambassador Team represents the heritage and legacy of Disney and the friendly, diverse spirit of Cast Members. They share the Disney traditions with other Cast Members and the world.
Updates: An older, all-gold version was released that was made by Meyer Insignia (when the company went out of business, the gold and silver version was made by a different company). The reverse of the all-gold version reads, "© Walt Disney Productions;" the bottom of the D reads "W.S. Meyer, Inc New York."
I believe the gold and silver pin is the older of the two versions.
It appears that large lots of insignia pins were sold by the company that manufactured them. These items were never used. This is why so many are showing up on their original cards and are in brand new condition.
Also, the original costume pins were marked with Walt Disney Productions and are made of vermeil, a very thin layer of 10 karat gold over sterling silver.
