Twenty-four characters from the World of Disney were selected to be represented through symbols and colors on 24 different cloisonné pins. The individual pins could be “hung” as “ornaments” either on the pop up pin card Christmas Tree or with the aide of the attached black ribbon onto a Christmas Tree.
These pins were sold in a large case with 24 numbered drawers.
This pin, including the ornament topper boasts a light, elephant gray background color. This background color matches the color of the character this ornament is designed to pay tribute to, the small Asian elephant with the large, wing-like ears, Dumbo. This infant character is a member of the traveling circus and due to the extraordinary size of his ears, he is often paired with the clown act and his costume reflects that. The ornament is accented with the pieces of this costume including the small, yellow, conical hat that is placed just to the right of the ornament topper. Near the center, encircling the ornament and extending past the edge of the pin is the red clown collar with a yellow center stripe that Dumbo is known for wearing around his neck. Close to the bottom of the pin is another red stripe but this one is bordered with blue and filled with yellow stars that hints at the designs that decorate the ring curbs of the performance space.
