PP16738    Scoopy - Button - The Sacramento Bee

Front Description

Just as Walt Disney allowed the Oregon Ducks to use Donald as a mascot, he also made a personal arrangement with a newspaper in Northern California called the Sacramento Bee. The Studio created this bee and the newspaper used it in their logo. The only merchandise I have ever seen is this little one and three quarter inch button that is marked ©Walt Disney (in a simulated signature) and a belt buckle, made of bronze.

[27 Feb 2008 comment: Designed after WWII, there were 2 made up, this one is called Scoopy and his twin was called Gabby. Scoopy ended up being the mascot for the paper and Gabby for the radio mascot.. Mr. Disney remarked once that these were the "only characters that lived outside the Disney universe."]
