This pin commemorated the groundbreaking ceremony for the Hong Kong Disneyland theme park in January of 2003.
Mickey Mouse, in his Fantasia role as "The Sorcerer's Apprentice," faces forward. His right hand has a wand in it and is lifted up by Yensid's blue and white hat. He stands on a green shape that reads "GROUNDBREAKING" in gold; below that in the green is a series of Chinese characters which, translated, means "Hong Kong Disneyland Groundbreaking Ceremony." Below that is a gold dangle that says "JANUARY" in Blue and "2003" in red.
Mickey is surrounded by two layers of circles - a blue background filled with swirls of dozens of gold stars and "THE MAGIC BEGINS" to his head's right side, and outside of that a red circle with "HONG KONG DISNEYLAND" in gold.
The pin measures 1 5/8" (41 mm) wide & 2" (50 mm) tall (including the dangle). The reverse has a single post, the 2003 official Pin Trading logo, "LIMITED EDITION 5000, © Disney, CHINA."
