PP21690    Japan - Mickey and Minnie Mouse Riding a Carp Streamer Set - Koi Nobori with Roof Top and Flag Pole - Tango no Sekku - JDS

Front Description

This pin set includes a pin of Mickey & Minnie riding on a Carp Streamer that pins onto a flag pole that slides into the plastic roof top. A second, plain Carp Streamer pin goes underneath the top streamer, and a separate Pluto pin fits on the plastic Roof top.

The character streamer attaches to a flag pole (seen in second photo) and can be switched out with #21644 or pin #21363.

The custom, in Japan, of displaying carp pennants on Boys' Day has been replaced with Childrens' Day. Traditionally the number of carp represented how many male children were in the family. The Japanese carp represented those manly physical qualities that we usually associate with salmon here in America. Salmon are not native to Japan. Otherwise maybe the Japanese would be flying salmon on Childrens' Day.
