Front Description
OK Folks. I am going to have to go off of Tomart's Guide to Disneyana Pin Trading 3rd Edition for this one. Tomart has similar sweater clasps valued at between $126 to $175.
"Most pins up until the mid 50's were made by licensees for sale at retail. Back then pins were marketed as children's jewelry, rather than collectable items"
Here we have a Dumbo Sweater Clasp. This pin would be used to keep a child's sweater wrapped around their shoulders. I am going to guess that this pin originated around 1941. The pin was made by the Brier Manufacturing Company which was a licensee of Disney Pins durring this time.
The pins themselves are made of painted metal. Each measuring about 1" to 1 1/2". There is a 4" chain which connects the two. The back of each pin has a hinged dual prong.
The back of Dumbo is stamped © WD.P. (Presumably Walt Disney Productions)
Similar pins include: #9456, #16041, #19140.
