Front Description
This is the original Disneyland Cast Badge that cast members wore at Disneyland from 1955 until 1962, instead of name tags.
The badge is gold / bronze in color with light blue writing. The front is composed of three pieces, with the Magic Kingdom logo and the employee id number bolted into place on the main part of the badge.
Disney has made three replicas of this badge that could be purchased by cast members at Company D. All three have the number 1955. Apparently very few of the originals have survived. The Disney Archives does not contain one.
Note another known Original Disneyland Cast Badge has less bolts and a ring on the back, presumably so it could be worn like a necklace.
There are a number of differences between the original Disneyland cast badges and the replicas. The readily apparent differences are the:
- color of the badges (the base metal of both replicas is a very light gold color)
- original is slightly larger and more round in shape
- lettering and stars on the badges are different, most notably in the letter D
- use of bolts on the original
- level of detail on the Magic Kingdom logo is much greater on the original then on the replicas
- metal of the original is thinner but is acutally very strong.
