Front Description
At the Disney Pin Celebration: A Family Pin Gathering in September 2004, attendees were surprised with a sneak preview of art for a new ten-pin Cast Lanyard Collection. Straight from the Disney Pin Vault, these pins had originally been designed for the first “Disney’s Lanyard Pin Series” that had been released in 2002. They’d been sampled but never ordered. Two years later, Disney announced, “The Disney Pin Trading Team is excited to offer a special promotion starting Monday, April 24, 2006, at Pin Central, located at EPCOT.”
Although often mistaken for Completer pins for some of the earlier sets, these ten pins were (according to Disney) created especially for this promotion, “as a tribute to the original series”. They were not distributed to Cast Members for trading and were released as a Purchase with Purchase (PWP) at Pin Central in EPCOT. For every $25 spent on Disney pins or Disney trading accessories at the shop, guests could add one (1) of these pins to their purchase for $1. A year later, on 1 July 2007, the pins were sent to Downtown Disney’s Pin Traders, where the promotion changed to one $1 pin for every $35 spent. The backs of the pins are marked CAST LANYARD COLLECTION, backstamped 2006, and have no Hidden Mickey icon on the front.
This pin features Goofy's smiling face superimposed on a blue sunglass lens.
*[old comment] This pin is known to have been faked. It was noted that this promotional pin was made out of gold metal, but NONE of these pins were produced on silver-colored metal. The scrapper version has a LOT of metal between the strands of hair. However, it appears that the UCANFLY license plate was actually a silver pin this time around, while the others were indeed gold.
