Some signs to spot a counterfeit version:

1) The paint on the counterfeits is commonly dipped in and not nice and smoothly like the authentc pins.

2) On the fakes, there is an area on the Evil Queen's white collar on the left side that is lacking a metal line creating the edge of her collar. Therefore, the red apple and white collar colors are filled in right next to each other - so it looks like they are running into each other without having that boundary there. This problem has found on the 2008 versions of the counterfeit pins.
