Front Description
This is the first of the many PIECE OF DISNEY HISTORY (aka PODH) pins released throughout the years. Working with various Engineering Services teams, the Disney Pin Team was able to obtain actual pieces of Disney Attractions, some of which have been retired. In turn, the Pin Team partnered with the manufacturer to add pieces of those Disney attractions to the fronts of the pins (in small bubble domes).
Released on 28 Jan 2005, this pin spotlights the 20,000 Leagues Under the Sea attraction. It features one of the Nautilus ride boats and has actual pieces of the porthole inside the dome in the top-left corner. The submarine is pointing left, with a giant squid attacking it from the rear. The bubble is above the conning tower. Background is blue water.
27 Jan 2005 release from Disney: "This pin celebrates 20,000 Leagues Under the Sea and is the first pin in the Piece of Disney History Collection which celebrates Disney Attractions and let Guests take a piece of Disney history home with them. This is the first pin in this collection which features actual pieces of the porthole from the attraction under a clear bubble dome on the pin."
BACK OF CARD: "This Limited Edition trading pin contains actual pieces of a porthole from the classic Disney attraction, 20,000 Leagues Under the Sea. This attraction operated at the Magic Kingdom Park from 1971 to 1994."
