Front Description
This is the twelfth of 12 MYSTERY PINS released at WDW in 2000-2001. Pin replicates the paper Wet Paint signs that were used at this time by the painting department. Donald is mad at his nephew Dewey who has messed up his paint job. The pin is a yellow background, with red words "Wet Paint." Artist: Mark Seppala. The back denotes that it's a LIMITED EDITION OF 1000.
Surprise pins were a series of unannounced pins that were released in a single location, and usually LE 1000. Also, known as Mystery Pins, but that term has taken on a different meaning as Disney Pin Trading has evolved. This pin was only released at Exposition Hall in the Magic Kingdom.
Another Mystery pin release, this one was sold only at MK and is a LE of 1000. It is a square yellow pin with the words Wet Paint across the center. Donald Duck is yelling at one of his nephews, because he is dragging what looks to be a scarf and messing up Donald's paint job. Some of the Artist Proofs of this pin have a slightly different color of yellow - a shade or two darker then the production release. This pin was designed by Disney Design Group Artist Mark Seppala.
***********
[2006 Scrapper note]: It's not only the background color, which is a much lighter, almost neon yellow, but the placements of the paint "splatters" from the paint brush and under the "t" in paint. Also, the splatters are not as defined as in the authentic pin. The "star" thingy in the "t" of "wet" is also not as defined as the authentic pin. Donald's tail feathers are not as well defined. A more obvious difference between the counterfeit pin and the authentic pin is the colors of the nephew’s hat. On the counterfeit pin, the colors are, from left to right, blue, yellow, and red, and on the authentic pin, the colors are blue, white, and red. Also, The counterfeit version is on a silver pin, and the post is also silver. On the original pin, both the pin and post are gold. The backstamp on the counterfeit is the same as the authentic pin.]
