Front Description
This eight-pin A DAY IN THE GROTTO open-edition, framed pin set was released on August 18th, 2006 at Disneyland and recreates Snow White's Grotto in Disneyland. The gold-and-white enamel pins replicate the statues in the grotto and feature Snow White, Grumpy, Sneezy, Doc, Happy, Sleepy, Bashful, and Dopey.
Snow White's Grotto can be found next to the Sleeping Beauty Castle in Disneyland. Walt acquired a set of Italian carrara-marble Snow White and Dwarfs sculptures and asked WED designer John Hench to find a permanent home for them in Disneyland. From a design point-of-view, the biggest challenge was that the Snow White statue was the same height as the dwarfs. Hench designed the grotto using forced perspective (and added additional animal sculptures) to create the illusion of Snow White being taller than the dwarfs. With time, after many years on display, the original statues became discoloured. Molds were cast from the originals and fiberglass replicas replaced the original in the Grotto display.
