The Disneyland Railroad Observation car #106 started service in 1955 as the Grand Canyon; part of the Retlaw 1 consist. In 1976, the car was transformed into the Lilly Belle; an elegant, private railcar for distinguished guest.

When the car first was built it was known as the Grand Canyon car, it was later converted into Walt Disney’s private coach car; which carry many dignitaries from around the world. This image derives from the Mell Kilpatrick’s collection. Mell was Walt’s Disney special photographer who had unlimited access to the park till his death in 1962. No where else is this photo known to exist than Mell Kilpatrick’s collection of Vintage Disneyland Photography.
