This pin is of a photo of Opening Day of Disneyland Park in Anaheim, California, at 10:00 AM on July 17, 1955. The people pictured are Governor and Mrs. Knight, Reverend Glenn Puder, and Walt Disney. The park was designed to hold 60,000 visitors daily. The total area of the park was 160 acres with the actual Park at 60 acres. The automobile capacity was 12,175 vehicles and there were 20 restaurants in all four different lands. To visit every land, the distance was 1.4 miles. There were over 1,000 employees and the plants were from all over the world. There were approximately 12,000 orange trees removed in order to create park. This photo is from Mell Kirkpatrick’s collection. He was Walt Disney’s special photographer, who had unlimited access to the Park until his death in 1962. The third picture (a bit blurry) shows the pin before it has yellowed.
