PP587    Japan - Donald Duck - Kabuki - TDL

Front Description

This pin has a red background and depicts Donald dressed in a traditional Kabuki costume of black, yellow, and lime green. Japanese writing appears in the upper right hand corner and TOKYO DISNEYLAND is imprinted on the back of the pin.

 

The Duck performing the role of Benkei, a legendary warrior monk in ancient Japan. He is displaying a mie, a traditional kabuki intimidating face. Benkei is armed with a bo (staff). According to legend Benkei vowed to collect 1000 swords, the hard way, in duels with samurai. He managed to collect 999. Yoshitsune, a young samurai, was supposed to be his 1000th donor. Instead Benkei was defeated but he pleged his loyalty to Yoshitsune because he was amazed with the young man's ability to defeat him armed only with a fan.
