Front Description
Donald Rough Drawing is the first of four pins in a beautiful animation study of Donald Duck (#37819). The set consists of three pins of Donald shown in stages of coloring (and a 4th logo pin) and is one of at least four other sets featuring Disney characters in such settings.
This Donald - shown as he appears on the display card - appears to be pewter. He is tumbling, about to hit the ground, and is upside down with his fists raised in the air and his expression in a fit of anger.
The pin measures 1 3/8" (35 mm) wide by 2 1/8" (53 mm) tall. The reverse has a double-post back and is individually-numbered. This particular pin shown is #223 of 2001, so the backstamp reads "© DISNEY, LIMITED EDITION 223/2001, CHINA."
He is mounted to a background which has a series of sketches (outlined as well as colored) of Donald in several poses echoing the pins. Below the pins is a quote from Walt Disney (used in "Meet the Robinsons"), "We keep moving forward because curiousity keeps leading us down new paths."
According to the Certificate of Verification, the pin set was available exclusively at Off the Page store in Disney's California Adventure. The tag on the packaging, however, shows a Disney Auctions number of DA00718, so perhaps unsold sets were then sold online.
Note: The pin is also part of (#4375) which is the exact same pin set, only marketed within a frame.
