PP71361    WDW - Velociraptor (Raptor) from Dinosaur Series

Front Description

This Velociraptor (Raptor) is one of at least seven pins released at Walt Disney World. Believed to have been sold outside the original Countdown to Extinction ride in Animal Kingdom, as all the dinos in the series are part of the ride. An older pin found on the smaller 1 3/4" by 2 1/4" black sale display cards.

The Raptor is turned left, with it head looking forward, showing its teeth and looking like its ready to attack. It is a moss green with light yellow or beige underbelly.

The pin as shown measures 1 1/2" (38 mm) wide by 7/8" (21 mm) tall. As with all the pins in this series, the backstamp is, "© PINS AND THINGS, Phone number, China." (Information from contacting Pins and Things reveals that the company is still used by Disney for pins, though they now use the Disney copyright on the back of the pins they supply.) It is the only pin in the series known to have a double-post back (most have single posts).

In real life, the Velociraptor was a medium-sized cealosaur, measuring up to 6 3/4' (2 meter) long and 1 5/8' (.5 meter) high at the hip, and weighing about 33 lb. (15 kg).
