- the colors on the counterfeit pin are not as bright and vivid as the original; they are muted, but still glossy as original
- the outline of the pin, including cutouts, are not as clean cut as the original; edges are sharp
- the back stamp information is raised too far off the pin; level difference is felt when rubbing fingers across the back of pin
