Front Description
This 2" pinback button / badge was made by Jack Janzen, and they were handed out to 150 - 200 people who attended The "E" Ticket magazine "The Last Ride" event / party, held at the Griffth Park Merry-Go-Round, on August 7, 2009.. This is where Walt Disney sat on a bench and watched his kids ride the Merry-Go-Round, and was, so the story goes, inspired to build Disneyland.
There are many photos of "The Last Ride" party at http://www.the-e-ticket.com where you can see attendees wearing this button.
The "E" Ticket was a popular, privately-published Disneyland "fanzine", and 46 regular issues, plus two special "Annuals" were published roughly quarterly, between 1986 - 2009. Jack Janzen (and his late Brother Leon, who passed away in 2003), were the creators / writers / photographers / illustrators of The "E" Ticket. In 2009, Jack mailed the final issue #46 to subscribers, and shut down publication, sold the name, artwork, archives, and all rights to The "E" Ticket to The Walt Disney Family Museum, in San Francisco. The Museum currently sells SOME back issues (#25 - #45 only), plus the three archive CDs Jack created, which contain .pdf files of issues #1 - #24.
Issues are commonly available on eBay and at Disneyana shows, and the older they are, the more expensive they get.. Early issues had tiny print-runs.. full color and glossy paper was introduced with issue #24. Most issues were sold by subscription, although they were also available at a couple shops inside Disneyland, once a barcode was added.
The Griffth Park party, where this button was handed out, was free and open to the public, and was briefly advertised on the now-defunct magazine's Web site. A few Disney "legends" attended.
To the best of my knowledge, these buttons are not for sale anywhere, and the only way to obtain one is from someone willing to give one up.
