PP91834    Treasures of the Walt Disney Archives - the Reagan Library - Storybook Sleeping Beauty

Front Description

This is a large, hinged Story Book pin with a brassy gold, bejeweled front cover. There is a thick, jeweled encrusted, outer border full of resin covered glittery jewels in a full rainbow of colors highlighted with white colored gems. These are all connected by a background of outlined vines and leaves with an inner border/box which reads Sleeping Beauty in a mustard gold colored calligraphy script. Beneath the text are outlines of curling vines, thorns and leaves and a smattering of smaller jewels.

When opened, the left shows a detailed outline of the three good fairies (Flora, Fauna, and Merryweather) flying at a downward curve from left to right and trailing fairy dust from their three upheld wands. The right shows an ornate photo of Princess Aurora (in a blue dress) dancing with Prince Phillip in pink tinted clouds against a darker blue sky and circled by birds. There is text underneath and to the right which features a large calligraphy "A" which reads "and they lived happily ever after" followed by an ornate period/blue square. The dancing couple and birds are enclosed by a double pink line border which is then wrapped by a blue floral (vines, leaves, two medium dark blue flowers) border on the bottom and a pink floral (vines/branches and leaves, one large pink flower) border on top.

The back of the pin has two vertical posts without nubs. Centered between the posts is a medium sized crest which shows two scrolls bracketing a Mickey head icon followed by "Walt Disney Archives" and "Collection" in a banner that drapes across the crest followed by "EST 1923" at the bottom of the crest and bracketed by scrolls. Underneath that is "(C) Disney" and below that "MADE IN CHINA".

The pin is backed on a black flocked card which reads D23, Disney.com/D23 on the top left Mickey ear and "The Official Disney Fan Club" on the bottom. The back has a sticker that reads Storybook Sleeping Beauty, the barcode WDP024, $16.95, Ronald Reagan Museum Store" Printed on the side border is P389-7448-2-12132

This pin was inspired by the Sleeping Beauty prop storybook shown during the brief live-action prologue sequence before the film in 1959. The original prop was made with hammered brass with gold foil jewels with the inner pages designed and painted by Eyvind Earle.

The front of this pin is similar to Pin 86082: D23 Expo 2011 - Fairy Tale Book Series - Sleeping Beauty but it is larger and the inside scenes are different.

There are two other story book pins available for purchase at the D23 Treasures of the Walt Disney Archives at the Ronald Reagan Presidential Library and Museum.
