PP95201    Flights of Fancy - Mini Ceramic Head Profile Series (Donald Duck)

Front Description

Donald Duck's head is shown facing right, eyes looking left on this small ceremic hand-painted pin. It is one of a series of smaller faces shown in profile.

Donald has an open mouth with red outline snd orange tongue; he wears his light blue sailor hat with black accessory in the back; it is tilted forward.

The pin measures 3/4" (20 mm) wide by 3/4" (20 mm) tall. It has a glued-on post back. On the reverse is a sticker attached which reads "© WALT DISNEY PROD."

Roz Simon and Wendy Niven were designers and owners of Flights of Fancy - a West Coast ceramic jewelry company (circa late 1970's to early 1990's). The Disney pin series was produced in the early 1980's. Pins were licensed by Disney and sold in department stores such as Bloomingdales and Macy's, as well as various boutiques, gift stores, etc. They were also sold internationally (Japan, in particular).

Flights of Fancy jewelry gained fame from taking popular items - from boxes of crayons, Chiclets Chewing Gum boxes, tape dispensers, and other whimsical subjects - and creating colorful ceramic pins. Some were brooch-style and others had a single post back.
